Paul L. Rose, of Newton, died Friday evening, July 3, 2015, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services for Paul will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to Paul’s family, in his name. Burial will be in the Veteran’s Section at Newton Union Cemetery.

Paul Leonard Rose, 91, the son of Dwight and Agatha (Smith) Rose, was born June 11, 1924, in Pershing. He was a Newton High School graduate, Class of 1942. Paul was employed by the Maytag Company. He had served his country with the U.S. Navy, during World War II.

On May 6, 1951, Paul was united in marriage with Norma J. Eldred in Newton. He devoted his life to his family, and for many years he and Norma owned and operated the TASTEE FREEZ Restaurant, 1952-2006, here in Newton, along with his girls. He was a Life Member of the American Legion Post #111, Newton V.F.W. Post # 1655; Newton V.F.W. Funeral Honor Guard, the Newton First United Methodist Church, Newton Elks Club, Last Mans Club and the 40-8 Club. He also enjoyed coin collecting.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to honor Paul’s memory include his wife Norma; his daughters: Paula and her husband Doug Schmidt of Ankeny and Patti and her husband Jon Madison of Ankeny; his five grandchildren: Brandon and Nick Schmidt and Shelby, Jacob and Garret Madison; his sisters: Lila Walker and Vera Messick, both of Des Moines; and his many friends.
