Iowan gets probation for cashing counterfeit payroll checks

MASON CITY — A Des Moines woman has been given three years of probation and been told to pay nearly $1,900 in restitution for cashing counterfeit payroll checks in northern Iowa.

Angela Jefferson also was sentenced Wednesday in Cerro Gordo County District Court to two five-year prison sentences, but they were suspended. Authorities say Jefferson, Keyera Coleman and Carli Taylor Ohnemus cashed more than $3,900 in phony payroll checks.
