Start making plans to travel east to Kinnick Stadium for Newton Community Day Sept. 26 when the Iowa Hawkeyes football team takes on the Mean Green of the University of North Texas.
Hosted by the University of Iowa Athletic Department, it is an opportunity for residents of Newton to enjoy a day in Iowa City at a reduced cost.
“We recognize that there are a significant number of Hawkeye fans in Newton that may have never had the opportunity to visit Kinnick Stadium. We are offering discounts to make it more affordable to come the first time or to make a repeat visit,” University of Iowa’s Director of External Relations Rick Klatt said.
“We hope the city of Newton and its residents will have a significant presence in the stadium and that all enjoy a game day on the UI campus,” Klatt said.
Any member of the Newton community can purchase an unlimited number of $40 group rate adult tickets and $25 youth tickets. A regular single game ticket is priced at $60 per seat.
Last year, Grinnell was given the opportunity to attend a Hawkeye football game and sold a record 526 tickets.
“Please share special Newton Community Day offer with all of your co-workers, family and friends because we would love to smash the Grinnell Community Day,” Newton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Craig Light said.
An added bonus to the North Texas game is the Iowa homecoming of former Iowa State football coach Dan McCarney. McCarney has been coaching in Denton since 2011, leading the Mean Green to a 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl 36-14 over Nevada-Las Vegas.
