Newton Police Department

• Stephanie J. Webster, 29, of Newton, is charge with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called to 1209 W. Seventh St. S. at 12:32 a.m. Friday. Officers spoke with the victim who was bleeding from a cut on his face. He told officers he had been hit by Webster and she admitted to hitting him because he accused her of cheating. She had an injury to her right hand she said she got when she hit the victim. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Garrett I. Pieper, 28, of Colfax, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over in the 700 block of East 19th Street South at 10:33 p.m. Friday. Officers were told about a reckless driver who was going from side to side, slamming on the brakes, hit the curb and stopped at an intersection with no stop sign. Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with Pieper who smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Daniel P. Banghart, 43, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over in the 200 block of East 17th Street North at 4:42 a.m. Saturday. Officers spoke with Banghart and he had slow, slurred speech and red, watery eyes. Banghart admitted he had a few drinks and had a BAC of .208. He was cited and released to appear.

• Shelly A. Martin, 38, of Newton, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to 1501 N. 11th Ave E. at 11:35 p.m. Sunday. Officers found Martin who admitted to having a marijuana pipe. She was cited and released to appear.
