Newton Trap Team compete in sporting clays state

OSKALOOSA — Five members of the Newton Trap Team competed in the final competition of the 2015 season last Saturday. Newton wrapped up the season a 15th-place squad finish in the 2015 Iowa State Sporting Clays competition.

Connor McAdoo, Bryce Romick and Dawson Cobler were Newton’s squad members in the event. They posted a combined score of 278 out of a possible 450 clay birds. Jake Arrowood and Logan Zaabel along with the other three shooters competed in the 150-bird event as individuals.

McAdoo had Newton’s highest individual score, hitting 99 of 150, which put him 40th in the senior varsity individuals. There were 61 shooters representing 10 teams in the senior varsity division.

“Our five members shot well, even though we didn’t take any trophies,” said Paul Klein, Newton Trap Team head coach. “Our kids did a great job representing our team.”

The state competition was held at Mahaska County Isaak Walton League in Oskaloosa.

“It was a great course with a few challenging presentations. I think our shooters enjoyed it and performed well,” Klein said.
