Apartments evacuated as water rises above flood stage

CLIVE (AP) — An apartment complex in Central Iowa has been evacuated as water from Walnut Creek rose above the flood stage.

According to Clive police chief Michael Venema, eight apartments at a complex in Clive were evacuated early Thursday morning before water rose above the stage level. Venema said the building is now surrounded by water. Residents were taken to the city’s public safety building for shelter.

No injuries were reported.

Several streets in Clive have been closed because of the rising water.

Central Iowa saw strong storms pass through Wednesday night, triggering flash flood watches and warnings.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Boone, Dallas, Guthrie, Madison, Marion, Polk and Warren counties.
