Jason Robert Blount, 98, of Newton, died Friday, June 19, 2015, at Careage of Newton in Newton. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24 at the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to the Jasper County Historical Society may be left at the church on the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Blount Family on the envelope.

Jason, the son of Samuel and Orpha Roberts Blount, was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Mound Prairie Township, Jasper County. He was a graduate of Mitchellville High School in Mitchellville, with the Class of 1934; he also graduated from the Chillicothe Business College. Jason served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II.

On Aug. 6, 1946, Jason was united in marriage with Ruby I. Cooper in Newton. He was the credit manager for the Denniston & Partridge Lumber Company in Newton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; he was a member and past president of Newton Noon Kiwanis and past lieutenant governor of Kiwanis; Newton City Council, and past chairman of the Newton Zoning Board of Adjustment. He enjoyed traveling, he had been on every continent except Antarctica; he also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading and talking with his friends.

Those left to honor Jason’s memory are his wife of 68-plus years, Ruby of Newton; son, Tim (Wanda) Blount of Newton; his sister, Julia Harlan of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilbur Lee Blount in infancy; and brother-in-law, Ellis Harlan.
