Least of Saints helping out bikers with ‘survival kit'

The Least of Saints Ministry is offering a kind of motorcycle survival kit to those who stop by the church at 219 N. Second Ave. W. during Thunder Nites bike nights. Consisting of sunscreen, chapstick, ibuprofen, a comb, facial tissues, a bandanna, hair tie and Bible, the kit was something Pastor Scott Greene’s wife came up with.

“My wife’s the one who thought of this, she always thinks of the good stuff,” Greene said. “Probably because she’s been with me and opened up the bag and says we don’t have any Kleenex or this or that, it may have instigated that.”

They started giving them away at the first bike night this year and will continue until the packs are gone. Greene said that he has received a very good response from the bikers and that they often forget the little things, bare necessities when going on the motorcycle. Greene hopes to continue doing little things like this to help promote the church.

“This is because I do ride motorcycles and we do go on long trips, you always end up that you need something, need some chapstick on the bike and we also put a Bible in it,” Greene said.

The chapstick in the pack was purchased online and they were able to put a label on it reading The Least of Saints for some self-promotion. He said that it has been good to get people in the church and see what they are all about, being that they are a little different from the traditional church.

“We have a different, more laid back way of worshiping,” Greene said.

The church has been working to grow through other methods, including having a garage sale earlier this year. Greene said everything for the sale was donated and more than $1,000 was raised to be used for the church.

“People even showed up and just gave us money without taking anything,” Greene said.

With a portion of the money, he was able to purchase a TV to use during worship to add multi-media presentations, movies and clips. Greene hopes through their question and answer meeting and potential movie nights to get a wider audience into the church.

“Fellowship is as important as anything you do in worship. Just getting people exposed, getting them in the door and see what you have,” Greene said.
