Gilbert rallies past CMB, stays unbeaten in HOIC

GILBERT — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter baseball team has held leads in the sixth inning over its last two Heart of Iowa Conference opponents.

Unfortunately, the Raiders have been unable to translate those leads into wins.

Saydel rallied from a 2-1 deficit against CMB on Friday and then first-place Gilbert used a two-run sixth and a two-run seventh to rally back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Raiders, 4-3, on Monday.

Brady Stover allowed just five hits and fanned 13, but he surrendered six walks in taking his first loss of the season. Only two of the four runs were earned as the Raiders committed three errors.

The bats went silent, too. CMB managed two hits in the game, but two walks and four Gilbert errors helped the Raiders score three.

Gilbert improved to 12-2 overall and the Tigers are now a HOIC-best 8-0 after winning their eighth straight game.

CMB dropped its fourth in a row and is now 5-7 overall and 5-4 in HOIC play.

Brady Kemp had a hit and scored one of the runs. Tucker Maxwell had the other hit, the other two runs were scored by Hunter McWhirter and Brady Ross and the walks were registered by McWhirter and Spencer Gauch. Creighton Caple also had an RBI.

CMB hosts Nevada at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
