Newton Police Department

• Bryon J. Schuring, 23, of Newton, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over in the 700 block of South Eighth Avenue West at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday. He was cited and released to appear.

• Joshua E. Meyer, 33, of Centerville, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over in the 300 block of South Fifth Avenue West at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday. He was cited and released to appear.

• Scott F. Atkinson, 30, is charged with possession of controlled substance, carrying weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities pulled over a vehicle in which he was a passenger, in the 100 block of First Avenue West at 11:26 p.m. Sunday. After the vehicle was stopped officers found a knife in Atkinson’s pants along with a half a gram of methamphetamine and two baggies with residue in them. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Johnny D. Hickman, 42, of Newton, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance, second-degree theft, fifth-degree theft and eluding after he was pulled over in the 100 block of First Avenue West at 11:25 p.m. Sunday. Officers attempted to pull over Hickman’s vehicle when he began to speed away, getting up to 110 miles per hour before stopping. Officers found a half gram of meth along with two baggies with white residue in them. Officers also found the vehicle had been reported stolen. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Roderick S. Runnels, 55, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called to 6965 Locust St. at 9:23 p.m. Thursday. Officers were called on a domestic altercation where Runnels allegedly put his hands around the victim’s neck and pulled her hair. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
