Mistakes doom PCM in loss to Albia

ALBIA — The Prairie City-Monroe baseball team couldn’t hold two separate three-run leads as five errors came back to bite the Mustangs on Tuesday during a 7-6 loss to Albia.

The Mustangs led 3-0 after two and 5-2 after four, but the Blue Demons scored five runs in the final three innings to claim the walk-off win at home.

Austin Brown hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put PCM up 5-2 and then his RBI double in the top of the seventh pushed the advantage to 6-4.

Albia (4-1) came through with three runs in its final at-bat to win its fourth straight.

The game-winning two-run single came from Tyler Maddison.

PCM out-hit Albia 12-7, but the Blue Demons committed three less errors in the field.

PCM’s Gunnar Davis started on the mound and went four innings. He allowed four hits and four runs — two earned — while striking out two and walking three.

Noah Henkenius took the loss in relief. He tossed the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and three runs — two earned — while fanning four.

Brown had three hits at the dish and added two runs and three RBIs.

Trey Lindsay had two hits, two runs and two walks, while Clay Cooper and Noah Clark each had two hits.

PCM (2-3) returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when its hosts rival Collins-Maxwell/Baxter.
