Aaron J. Henning, 38, of Newton, died Monday, June 1, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The family of Aaron will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of Aaron’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6 at the Adult Softball Complex, 200 N. 19th Ave. E. in Newton. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Aaron’s name may be left at the funeral home or at the service.

Aaron, the son of Virgil Henning and Debbie (Stevens) Henning, was born Oct. 11, 1976, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1995. Aaron later graduated from the DMACC electrical program. On May 3, 2014, he was united in marriage with Genevieve Avila at Sugar Grove Winery in Newton. He had worked at Sullivan Auto Body and also at TPI.

Aaron was a dedicated coach to the Newton Wrestling Club, Newton Little League and YMCA Soccer. He also played in many different softball leagues in the area, organizing the Kellogg softball tournament every year.

Aaron was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Chicago Bears and looking up to Michael Jordan. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, comics, Star Wars and superheros. Most of all Aaron loved being a part of his boys’, Jordan and Logan’s activities. Aaron had a bigger than life personality and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, many times providing the comic relief. Aaron was a loving husband, dad, brother, son, grandson, uncle and friend.

Those left to honor Aaron’s memory are his wife, Genevieve Henning of Newton; children, Jordan and Logan Henning of Newton; his mother, Debbie Pherigo of Ft. Worth, Texas; sister, Amy Henning Drake (Richard) of Ft. Worth, Texas; his niece and nephew, Breanna and Nicholas Drake; parents-in-law, Jr and Diana Avila of Newton; and his maternal grandmother, JoAnn (Russ) Southern. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl and Eva Henning; and great-grandma Owens.
