Man had BAC over two times legal limit, child riding in vehicle

A Marshalltown man was charged with child endangerment Saturday after he was found driving while under the influence with a 3-year-old in his vehicle.

James K. Woods, 41, had a .214 BAC, more than two times the legal limit while the child sat in the front seat of the vehicle, according to a police report.

Officers saw Woods pull over to the side of the road and after speaking with him noticed a strong smell of alcohol along with blood shot, watery eyes and slurred speech. He admitted to having four or five beers before being stopped. Woods said that he was going to Marshalltown from Des Moines but ended up heading southbound on Highway 14 toward Monroe. He also had an open container in the vehicle.

Woods was charged with operating while under the influence along with child endangerment and was taken to the Jasper County Jail were he is being held on $2,000 cash bond.
