Newton FFA students compete in spring state contests

On April 20-21, the Newton FFA Chapter attended the 87th Annual Iowa FFA Leadership Conference and participated in many contests.

Members participated in ag sales, ag issues, POA, conduct, greenhand quiz, farm business and poultry judging.

Samantha Cutts won State Champion in Veterinary Medicine Proficiency Award and will advance to the National Competition while Jarret Horn was named Star Finalist in Agribusiness.

The Newton FFA had five students qualified for the Iowa Degrees. These students were Jarret Horn, Matt Bleakney, Arianna Jamieson, Ronny Clark and Benton Vest.

For the members that participated in contests, Jacob Smith participated in Ag Sales and won silver. Jaci Reeves, Sierra Foster, Ellie Horn, Ronny Clark, Kaylee Lange and Reanna Fitzgerald participated in Ag Issues and took home gold. Jarret Horn, Arianna Jamieson and Macy Leonard participated in Chapter Program (POA) and won silver.

Trevor Annee, Kalob Westercamp, Mariah Wolfe, Lane Dethrow, Audrey Lucas, Jessica Jacobs, Lindsay Campbell and Jaden Adams participated in Conduct of Meetings and won silver. Abby Hunt and Jaden Adams participated in Greenhand Quiz. Logan Chandler, Tapanga Birkenholtz, Emily Bollhoefer and Mariah Wolfe participated in Poultry Judging and took home silver. Benton Vest, Nick Winchell, Jarret Horn and Ronny Clark participated in Farm Business and won gold. Macy Leonard submitted her secretary’s book and won fourth place gold.

The Newton FFA also had helped the Meals with the Heartland food packaging event. The Newton FFA would like to congratulate every student that took place in these contests.
