Cover crop meeting held June 11 in Monroe

The Van Zante Creek Water Quality Improvement Project is hosting a cover crop informational meeting on from 6 to 8 p.m. June 11 at the Monroe City Administration building, 206 Sherman Street in Monroe. The event is free and the Jasper County Farm Bureau is providing a meal for attendees.

Meeting topics include benefits of cover crops, the role of NRCS with cover crop utilization, how cover crops are used in the Van Zante Watershed, aerial seeding of cover crops, and the opportunity to sign up for cost share. In addition, a panel of farmers will share their experiences with cover crops in the area.

Presenters include ISU Field Agronomist Mark Johnson, USDA-NRCS District Conservationist Curt Donahue, Aerial Spray Applicator Dan Kubal, Watershed Coordinator Terry McNeely and Assistant Technician Eric Imerman.
