Newton man stabbed during attempted robbery

A Newton man was arrested after being stabbed during an attempted robbery that took place last month.

Randall C. Mikesell Jr., 35, is charged with first-degree burglary. Mikesell allegedly entered an apartment on May 13 with a woman and began making threats to a victim, according to the police report.

The victim then armed himself with a small sword and told Mikesell and the woman to leave. The two left the apartment but a short time later Mikesell returned with a baseball bat and entered the residence.

There was a struggle between Mikesell and the victim that led to Mikesell being stabbed. He was treated at Skiff Medical Center and the police began an investigation.

On Thursday, the police department charged with Mikesell and he was taken to the Jasper County Jail where he is being held on a $20,300 bond.
