One inning plagues Tigerhawks against rival Greene County

JEFFERSON — Colfax-Mingo’s softball team went toe-to-toe with one of the favorites to win the Heart of Iowa Conference title Wednesday night.

But one bad inning doomed the Tigerhawks on the road. They lost 9-7.

With the game tied at 2 in the second inning, Greene County plated seven runs to take a commanding lead. The Tigerhawks rallied with two runs in the third and three more in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough.

Alivia Haley had three hits to lead the Tigerhawks (0-2). Rhiannon Haley chipped in two hits and two RBIs, while Erin Earles also had two RBIs and Brooke Nicholson walked twice.

Amy Russell took the loss in the circle.

She allowed the defending Class 3A third-place team to collect 10 hits over six innings. She fanned three in taking the loss.

Colfax-Mingo had eight hits in the game and three errors in the field.

The Tigerhawks host Grand View Christian at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. They head to South Hamilton at 7:30 p.m Friday.

COLFAX — The Tigerhawk baseball team opened the new season with a loss in five innings to the Rams.

Jarod Nichols took the loss on the mound, while Nichols, Jacob Buehrer, Adam Teed and Jimmy Camp each had singles at the plate.

The Tigerhawks (0-1) head to South Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
