C-M’s Maggard ends year in Marengo

MARENGO — Colfax-Mingo’s Olivia Maggard ended her golf season and high school career with an 18th-place finish at the Class 1A, Region 3 final round at Marengo Golf Club on Wednesday.

The final round was supposed to take place Tuesday but was postponed due to rain.

Maggard shot a 105 on the day. The top five individuals and the top two teams advance to the state meet.

New London won the meet with a 370 and two-time defending state champion Grundy Center was next at 371.

Grundy Center’s Josie McMartin won medalist honors with an 80.

The other individual state qualifiers included New London’s Jorgi Kreiger (85), Emma Pry (88) and Paetyn Prottsman (93), North Mahaska’s Mackenzie Fuller (93) and Winfield-Mount Union’s Grace Edwards (93).

Winfield-Mount Union was third in the team race with a 408.

Sigourney shot a 421 in fourth place, North Mahaska was one shot back at 420 in fifth and Belle Plaine ended up sixth in the six-team field with a 436.
