Woman, child injured in domestic abuse assault

A Newton man is charged with domestic abuse assault after a woman and child were injured Tuesday.

Douglas E. Sullivan, 51, was arrested after authorities were called in reference to a domestic assault situation and spoke with the victim, who explained her injuries.

She said there had been an argument between her and Sullivan where he assaulted her with scratches on the back and side of her neck and bruising on her face. The child had a cut on her upper lip from the incident. He was charged with domestic abuse assault, impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury following the statement from the victim.

Sullivan was arrested taken to the Jasper County Jail where he posted a $1,000 bond and was released.
