Hawk girls win, boys lose at Iowa Valley

MARENGO — Lynnville-Sully’s softball and baseball teams played on the road against Iowa Valley in South Iowa Cedar League action Wednesday. The Hawks had different results.

It was the season opener for the Hawk baseball team. The Hawks came up on the short end of a 4-0 decision. Iowa Valley scored a run in the second inning, another run in the fifth and added two more runs in the sixth.

Lynnville-Sully had two hits against Iowa Valley’s Austin Carney, who recorded 10 strikeouts. No other information for the Hawks was available at press time.

Lynnville-Sully’s softball team has played two SICL games in two days and outscored opponents 22-2. The Hawk girls rolled to an 11-0 win over Iowa Valley Wednesday in five innings. They scored seven runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.

Madison Rasmusson was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out five batters. The Hawks had nine hits, worked seven walks from Iowa Valley pitching and had 13 stolen bases.

Brenna Lanser delivered a home run and a single, driving in two runs and had a stolen base. Kasiah Ehresman stole five bases in the game as she had two singles and one RBI. Rasmusson connected for two hits, swiped three bases and drove in a run.

Lizzy Van Manen hit two singles, had two stolen bases and one RBI. Shelby Davis tripled, had a stolen base and one RBI. Makenzy Rozendaal had a stolen base.

The Hawk girls (2-0) host Pella Wednesday in Sully. The Hawk boys (0-1) play their home opener Wednesday against Colo-NESCO. Both games start at 6 p.m.
