Newton Police Department

• A 17-year-old juvenile is charged with reckless driving after authorities were called to the 1000 block of South Fifth Avenue West at 9:34 p.m. Thursday. The juvenile was found driving speeds in excess of 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. When he approached a stop sign there was a slight turn and he realized too late having the breaks lock up and his vehicle hit a light pole. The juvenile claimed he was being chased but a witness did not see another vehicle. His vehicle had approximately $5,000 in damage. He was cited and released to appear.

• Courtney L. Jenkins, 21, of Newton, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled her over on North Eighth Avenue East at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Robert C. Ringe, 50, of Newton, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over at the intersection of East 11th Street South and South Fifth Avenue East at 5:30 p.m. May 19. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
