County OK’s rock salt purchase for next winter

A bid from Independent Salt Company was approved by the Jasper County Board of Supervisors for rock salt to be used during the 2015-2016 winter season. The price approved came in at $75.87 per ton with the purchase to consist of 1,500 tons.

The purchase price includes delivery to the Jasper County shop in Newton from Independent Salt’s location in Kansas, Jasper County Engineer Russ Stutt said. There was only one other bid received at the price of $80.46 per ton from Cargill, Inc.

The board also approved the use of the courthouse lawn for Thanks with Franks scheduled for Sept. 3. Organized by the Young Professionals of Jasper County, Thanks with Franks last year brought 52 area businesses and organizations together to serve creatively-themed hot dogs to hundreds of local residents.
