A Newton woman charged in a December stabbing was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday.

Lisa L. McConnell, 34, was found guilty of willful injury resulting in serious injury. Court records show a pretrial conference is scheduled on July 6 for remaining counts including attempted murder and first-degree robbery.

McConnell was initially charged along with 34-year-old Nigel W. Graves. Earlier this month Graves pleaded guilty to fifth-degree theft and was ordered to serve 30 days in jail.

According to Newton Police, officers were called to 126 E. Fifth St. S. at about 7 p.m. Dec. 3, where officers found a victim suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to Skiff Medical Center for his injuries, where he was treated and later released.

Graves and McConnell were arrested shortly after the incident — one had the knife on their person and the other admitted they were both at the victim’s residence and an altercation occurred.

Each were charged with first-degree murder and willful injury and a first-degree robbery charge was later added by the Jasper County Attorney's Office.
