Jasper County Republicans

The Jasper County Republicans met May 18 for its monthly central committee meeting. The group discussed the state party’s recent Lincoln Day Dinner, Aug. 8 Straw Poll, and the Feb. 1, 2016 Iowa Caucuses.

Pat Mitchell was presented with a plaque as a momentum for her years of service as secretary to the party. Savannah Wood took over as secretary at the GOP’s March meeting.

The Jasper Republicans are planning a fall mixer and are working with more than a dozen presidential campaigns/potential campaigns to put area residents face to face with the candidates.

“We’re doing things a little differently these days. Our focus right now is on maintaining solidarity and growing our numbers. The next eight months are going to be very exciting times for all Iowans. Presidential politics is what makes us the most unique state in the Midwest,” said Marshall Critchfield, chairman of the local party.

The GOP meets at 7 p.m. every fourth Monday. The group is helping to put together a June fundraiser for Senator Grassley in Newton, if you would like to participate, email the party at JasperGOP@gmail.com. The next general meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 22 at Bridgehouse Coffee Shop. You can also keep up to date by visiting its Facebook page: Jasper County Iowa GOP.
