Newton Police Department

• Melissa F. Sherbinow, 24, of Newton, was arrested on a MINE Task Force warrant for possession of less than 5 grams of meth with intent to deliver and knowing/maintaining and vehicle for the purpose of transporting and/or using a controlled substance after authorities were called to the Emerson Hough parking lot at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael D. Phillips, 19, of Newton, was arrested on a Marion County warrant for probation violation after he turned himself in at the Newton Police Department at 12:33 a.m. Saturday. He was transported to Monroe and turned over to a Marion County deputy.

• Marshall D. Rowe, 21, of Newton,was arrested on Marion and Polk County warrants after authorities were called to 818 E. 17th St. N. at 7:33 p.m. Friday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Denise N. Meyer, 39, of Newton, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear after authorities were called to Newton Senior High School at 4:58 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Harold A. Swan, 40, of Newton, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear after authorities were called to 603 E. 22nd St. S. at 1:02 p.m. Sunday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Mesenda A. Swan, 29, of Newton, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear after authorities were called to 603 E. 22nd St. S. at 1:02 p.m. Sunday. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Elizabeth A. Carpenter, 50, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault and public intoxication after authorities were called to 109 W. Ninth St. N. at 12:03 a.m. Saturday. Officers were called on a domestic abuse assault and found Carpenter standing in the road. She smelled strongly of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes. The victim said he was assaulted by Carpenter and she grabbed his neck and scratched the right side of his neck. Two witnesses confirmed what the victim said. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Spencer M. Swank, 36, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence and open container after authorities pulled him over in the 2000 block of South 24th Avenue West at 7:54 p.m. Friday. Officers were notified of a possible intoxicated driving and after making contact with Swank found he had bloodshot, watery eyes and had a strong smell of alcohol. He had a cup in the truck the smelled like an alcoholic beverage. There was also a nearly empty bottle of whiskey and an empty bottle of vodka in the truck bed. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
