Public Paddle to be held on South Skunk River

In addition to public paddles held at Jacob Krumm Nature Preserve, the Jasper County Conservation Department will be holding a 9.25 mile river paddle down the South Skunk on June 12.

The paddle will start from the launch near the Chichaqua Wildlife Area in Polk County at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to carpool to the launch so transportation will be available from the exit point (Oswalt Bridge) back to the launch.

Single person kayaks and three person canoes will be available to rent for $10 per person. Life jackets will be available free of cost at the launch area. Adults with small children should bring their own lifejackets as we do not have any toddler PFDs.

Registration is required. To reserve a boat, stop by the office at 1030 W. Second St. S. or visit jaspercoutyconservation.com and fill out a registration form and return it to the office with payment before the day of the paddle. Limited space is available. Call the office at 641-792-9780 to check on availability.
