Newton Police Department
• Michael C. Burgess, 58, of Newton, is charged with following too close after authorities were called to South Eighth Avenue East at 5:17 p.m. Tuesday. Burgess and Avery Terlouw were traveling east when Terlouw applied his brakes and Burgess’ vehicle rear ended Terlouw’s vehicle. Both vehicles had approximately $500 in damage. He was cited and released to appear.
