Girls’ soccer regional pairings released

Ninth-ranked Newton, Collins-Maxwell/Baxter and Prairie City-Monroe now know their regional pairings for the Iowa Class 2A playoffs. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released regional pairings Monday.

In Class 2A Region 4, Newton and Waverly-Shell Rock earned first-round byes. Newton awaits the winner of CMB and Urbandale, which play at 6 p.m. May 29 at Urbandale. Boone hosts CAL on May 29 and the winner plays Waverly-Shell-Rock.

The regional semifinals are June 2 with Newton and Waverly-Shell Rock hosting games at 6 p.m. The championship game is 6 p.m. June 8 at Waverly.

PCM takes on South Tama/East Marshall in the first round of the 2A Region 7 at 5 p.m. May 29 at Tama. The winner advances to the semifinal game against Cedar Rapids Xavier, which hosts that game at 5 p.m. June 2.

In the other side of the Region 7 bracket, Independence hosts Decorah on May 29. The winner moves in the semifinal against host Marion June 2. The regional championship game is 5 p.m. June 8 at Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Regional champions advance to the Class 2A state tournament June11-13 at Cownie Stadium in Des Moines.
