Grinnell Farmers Market kicks off May 14

GRINNELL — The Grinnell Farmers Market is gearing up for its 2015 season, which begins Thursday, May 14. Thirty five vendors are currently signed up to participate in the market this season, between the Thursday and Saturday markets.

The Grinnell Farmers Market will take place on Thursday afternoons from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. The Farmers Market sets up along the Fourth Avenue and Broad Street perimeter of Central Park. The 2015 Grinnell Farmers Market is sponsored by Grinnell College, Grinnell Regional Medical Center and University of Iowa Community Credit Union.

Saturday market vendors include: Marsha Atkinson, produce and plants; Bunny Traxx Ceramics by Sheryl Anderson, ceramic items, kitchen towels and mitts; Compass Plant CSA by Ann Brau and Lisle Dunham, baked goods, produce, flowers and plants; Jarrod and Jennifer Gnau, produce, craft items, jewelry, baked goods and candy; Karen Kline: soy wax candles; Mary Minehart, produce and baked goods; Olson Garden Market, produce; Jason Siebert, produce; and Ginger Werner, produce, honey, eggs, popcorn and baked goods.

The market is planning extra activities for the fourth Thursday of each month. Activities will be focused around a monthly theme, and the May 28 theme is “Planting Time.” Plans include educational activities such as transplanting tomato and basil plants, music, hands-on art projects, story times and cooking demonstrations.
