For the second time in eight days, the Newton Community School District is scheduled to discuss plans for H.A. Lynn Stadium.
One of the action items on the agenda for Monday night’s in the Emerson Hough building’s conference room is approval of plans to renovate the home press box and build a visitor’s side press box at the stadium.
Frevert, Ramsey & Kobes, a Des Moines design firm, took bids for the project, but the low bid was about $211,000 — or at least $60,000 more than Superintendent Bob Callaghan anticipated.
At last Monday’s meeting, Callaghan and Dave Briden of FRK discussed paint, galvanizing and other variables that could be altered to change the price of materials for the project.
However, Briden said that the elevated nature of the off-the-ground portions of the project is what drives up the labor side of the costs, so there might not be any savings to be done there.
The board is meeting on consecutive Mondays by design, having met last week at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. The board’s final regular meeting before classes end for the year will be May 18 in the Hough conference room.
A special budget amendment meeting is set for May 26.
Other action items on Monday’s agenda include a price lunch equity decision, transportation renewal of and a consideration of a contract renewal for Perspective Consulting Partners, LLC.
Setting a date for Callaghan’s annual evaluation is another action item on the agenda. The superintendent is also set to make an announcement at Monday’s meeting regarding retirements of various district personnel.
