Newton, PCM to host girls golf regionals

The Newton and Prairie City-Monroe girls’ golf teams will be in familiar territory when the postseason begins next month.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released its regional pairings Wednesday and both the Cardinals’ Westwood Golf Course and Mustangs’ Gateway Recreation Golf Course will be host sites.

Newton hosts the Class 4A Region 2 final May 26. Joining the Cardinals in their quest to return to the state meet will be ADM of Adel, Ballard, Carlisle, Creston, Perry, Winterset, Knoxville and Little Hawkeye Conference rivals Dallas Center-Grimes, Grinnell, Norwalk and Pella.

PCM hosts an eight-team meet in the Region 2B first round. The Mustangs welcome Bondurant-Farrar, Centerville and Heart of Iowa Conference foes CMB-CN, Gilbert, Nevada, North Polk and Roland-Story on May 18.

Teams and individual golfers who advance play in the Region 2 final in Menlo at 5x80 Golf and Country Club on May 26. Teams from Region 2A which also could advance to Menlo include Atlantic, Chariton, Clarke, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Southwest Iowa and West Central Valley.

Colfax-Mingo plays at Grundy Center’s Town and Country Golf Course for its Class 1A Region 3A first round meet. Also playing in Grundy Center on May 18 will be Ankeny Christian, Belle Plaine, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, GMG, North Tama and the host Spartans.

The site for the Class 1A Region 3 final round is the Marengo Golf Club on May 26.

Start times for the regional meets will be determined at a later date.
