New location for Pet Kingdom

More open space and less car traffic are appealing qualities at the new location for Pet Kingdom.

Located at 2501 First Ave. E., this is not the first move for the business.

“What brought us here was a better building. The building before had been a garage and ... it wasn’t very energy efficient. We either had to close or find a new place,” Owner Sharon Wallway said.

Originally located a few blocks off the square, Pet Kingdom moved to right off the square, then on the square, then to its previous location on 12th Avenue East next to Walgreens.

Wallway is enjoying her new area, complete with additional parking and a green space next to the building for outdoor training. Also, being set back from the road, pet owner are able to get their animals out of the vehicles without worrying about traffic.

“It’s just more peaceful, better building and nicer,” Wallway said.

The new building is fully equipped with rooms for each groomer, individual washing and drying rooms, an inside training area and a complete retail section. Pet Kingdom will continue dog training with classes including puppy training for puppies 10 weeks to five to six months and basic obedience for dogs six to seven months up.

Wallway also offers behavioral testing for dogs, which can be helpful for breeders and canine good citizen certification through the American Kennel Club. To receive certification, dogs must complete 10 tasks including coming when called and greeting people. The dogs are then able to go to nursing homes and other care facilities to serve as care dogs.

“I’ve had a 10 year old bichon who came to training for the first time,” Wallway said.

Grooming is available for what Wallway calls the little, bitty, tiny breeds up to large breeds such as Saint Bernards.

“We do it all,” she said.

The shop does carry some items for other animals and although her expertise is in dogs and cats, if a customer needs an item for another animal, Wallway will work to find it.

With a better accommodations and a quieter area Wallways is happy with her new location.

“It’s just been really nice. The customers have liked it a lot better. There has only been positive feedback.”
