Hazel L. Burg-Burton

Hazel L. Burg-Burton, 85, the daughter of Ralph and Lulu (Steward) Bryant, was born Oct. 10, 1929, near St. Anthony. Having lived in Marshalltown for 38 years, she was a high school graduate and received her L.P.N. degree in nursing from Mercy Hospital Nurses training in Marshalltown.

On Nov. 15, 1947, Hazel was married to Joseph Wayne Burg. Wayne would precede her in death on Dec. 18, 1991. Hazel was employed as a licensed practical nurse for 25 years, moving to the Newton area in 1985. On March 19, 1993, Hazel was united in marriage with Clarence Irvin Burton. She devoted her life to her family and friends, and just enjoyed life in general. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Hazel died Friday, April 24, 2015, at her daughter (Cindy’s) home in Newton. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Wayne Burg and then Irvin Burton in January of 2011; her son-in-law Dean Spence; her three sisters; and two brothers. There will be a graveside service and burial held, 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 1 at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Those left to honor Hazel’s memory include her daughters, Cindy Spence of Newton, and Sandra (Douglas) Edward of Marshalltown; her son Larry (Beverly) Burg of Marshalltown; step-children, Connie (Mike) Trueman of Williams, Minn., Denny Burton of Newton and Terri (Mike) Wire of Ankeny; her 10 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother; and her many friends. Memorials may be left in Hazel’s name to: Skiff Hospice or to her family.
