PCM dominant against Lions on the pitch

DES MOINES — Prairie City-Monroe girls’ soccer coach Bill Sowder said Monday that his Mustangs looked liked a completely different team against Des Moines Christian.

And jumping out to an early lead gave that squad a big boost.

McKinzie Tjaden and Jessica Albright each scored a pair of goals and Abby Waddell added another as the Mustangs cruised to the 5-0 win over the Lions (3-3) at Cownie Soccer Complex.

“The girls are starting to do what we tell them to do and they looked like a different team tonight,” Sowder said. “They were talking a lot and they are starting to get it.”

The Mustangs (3-8) led 3-0 at halftime and never looked back. McKeely Tjaden was credited with the shutout in goal for PCM, which lost 10-0 to Class 2A No. 9 Grinnell on Monday.

PCM has a week off from competition. The Mustangs host Ballard at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
