Newell, Skiff Auxiliary give generous donation toward medical technology

Through the wonderful generosity of Louise Katherine Newell, who named the Skiff Auxiliary in her will, the Auxiliary has been privileged to join with the Skiff Foundation in the purchase of a Pain Management Radiofrequency Generator, estimated to cost $29,484.80, for use by Matt Biggerstaff, the new pain management physician who began seeing patients in Newton recently.

This equipment is used to combat pain via radiofrequency ablation, which uses radio wave electrical current to target areas of nerve tissue to provide relief to patients who suffer from chronic low-back and neck pain, as well as joint pain related to arthritis.

In addition, the generosity of Newell has allowed Skiff Auxiliary to donate a significant portion of the money needed to purchase necessary repairs to a nuclear medicine camera used in Skiff’s Radiology Department. That repair is estimated to cost $34,500.

Newell passed away on June 21, 2014 in Newton. The Auxiliary is extremely grateful to her for her generous gift and happy to use this money for the benefit of the patients of Skiff Medical Center.
