Colfax-Mingo girls take ‘big step forward’

OGDEN — Colfax-Mingo sophomore Dakota Hostetter qualified as an individual in the state cross country meet this past fall.

Thursday, she showed off her versatility in winning the 400-meter dash and placing third in the 1,500-meter run.

In all, the Tigerhawks finished second three times and crossed in third another three times on their way to a fourth-place finish at the Ogden Girls Relays.

Three larger schools finished ahead of Colfax-Mingo in the team standings. Gilbert ran away with the team title with 165 points.

Madrid was next at 122, while Ballard (94), Colfax-Mingo (79) and Woodward-Granger (62) rounded out the top five. The other two schools were Martensdale-St. Marys with 46 points and host Ogden finished with 19 points.

“It was a great night for the team as a whole with girls stepping up to try some new distances,” Colfax-Mingo coach Zach Tomas said. “We took a big step forward tonight and I know we are headed in the right direction as we enter the final month of the season. I look forward to seeing what they can do to close out the season.”

Hostetter’s winning time in the 400 was 1 minute, 3.81 seconds. Her 1,500 time was a personal-best 5:21.01.

The Tigerhawks doubled up in the 3,000 and the 1,500.

Coming in two spots after Hostetter in the 1,500 was Ivy Moore and she crossed in 6:01.71. Moore took second in the 3,000 in 12:39.53 and Kennedi Hostetter was third in 13:03.25.

The other two runner-up finishes came from Bailey Pease in the 800 and Aranda Woods in the long jump.

Pease nearly won the 800 as her time of 2:47.38 was just 0.16 seconds behind Gilbert’s Justine Rosburg. Woods hit 15 feet in the long jump for the first time this season and that was good to collect the silver.

Five relay teams placed fourth.

Kennedi Hostetter was a part of three of those. She opened the 4x200, 4x400 and the sprint medley relays.
