Money Smart Week at the Newton Library

The week of April 19-April 25 is Money Smart Week and in celebration the Newton Public Library will be participating in DASH for the Stash. The statewide winner of this contest will be awarded $1,000 to open or add to a retirement investment account. To play, participants go to the library to find four posters. They read each poster, access the quiz question and choose an answer. The easiest way to play DASH for the Stash is to use a smart phone or mobile device to scan each poster’s QR code, but you can also use a computer. Posters will be on display at the library. Check out our Money Smart Week display while visiting the library to play the contest.

Authors Wanted

The Newton Public Library is hosting a Newton Alumni Author Event from 4-6 p.m. on June 12 in the library meeting room. We are looking for published authors who have graduated from Newton to visit with the public, answer questions about writing books, the publishing process, bring copies of their books to sell and autograph their books. Join us on Alumni Weekend to celebrate what graduates have done. The library will also accept donated copies of books to add to our Iowa collection which houses books about Iowa or written by Iowa authors.  If interested, contact Nicole Lindstrom at 641-792-4108 or nlindstrom@newton.lib.ia.us. We invite the public and alumnus to attend

We are Hiring

Check out our website www.newton.lib.ia.us or stop into the library for more details and how to apply.

Postcards at the Library

The library is the central location to drop off your completed Get To Know Newton postcards. Shop on the square this weekend and receive discounts from stores when you fill out a card at checkout. Stop in to fill them out or drop them off by April 21. We have a goal to reach 10,000, help us make it. All postcards will be mailed to Iowans encouraging them to get to know Newton. This is your chance to tell Iowans why you love Newton and why they should too.

Board & Card Game Night

Join us in the library meeting room on April 27 for board games and cards. This program is open to all ages, children must be accompanied by an adult. Socialize with other board and card game palyers. Snacks will be provided.

5 Free Songs a Week

Freegal Music now allows five free song downloads a week. These songs are yours to keep and all you need is a library card. Go to www.freegalmusic.com to download music today. Find today's newest hits along with hits from the past. Songs are MP3 and iTunes-compatible.

Seeking Musicians, Authors and Crafters

The library is looking for Newton residents who have a musical talent, have published a book or can speak on writing a book, or who have a special skill in crafts to present programs for the Adult Summer Reading Program this summer. If interested, please contact Nicole Lindstrom at 641-792-4108 or nlindstrom@newton.lib.ia.us.
