Concert association to host renowned brass quintet Saturday

Alliance Brass to perform at Newton High School

The Jasper County Concert Association will host a talented brass quintet from Chicago, Alliance Brass, at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Center for Performing Arts Auditorium, Newton High School.

JCCA is a nonprofit association that seeks to bring live music performances to Jasper County. Alliance Brass is the last concert of the 2014-15 season, however, the concert association has prepared another supreme lineup for its next season including a ‘down home’ band, trombone quartet, international string trio and a piano man.

Alliance Brass is a classically trained quintet from Chicago comprised of young, professional and talented musicians. Members of the ensemble include Chris O’Hara, trumpet; Mary Galime, trumpet; Kelly Langenberg, French horn; Rachel Castellanos, trombone and William Russell, tuba.

The ensemble has performed across the world and has shared the stage with orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and other brass quintets including the Boston Brass and the Synergy Brass.

Alliance Brass performs its repertoire from the early Renaissance to modern jazz. At the concert Saturday, expect to hears songs such as “Simple Gifts” by Copeland, “Sinfonia” by Bach, “Can-Can” by Offenbach, or a selection from Bernstein’s West Side Story.

The ensemble is also dedicated to the education of the next generation of musicians, and members of Alliance Brass Quintet have served on faculty at some of the top music institutions including the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, DePaul University and International Festival and Institute at Round Top.
