Tired Tigerhawks finish fourth at Woodland Hills Golf Course

DES MOINES — One day after beginning the season with a promising round of 18 holes at Terrace Hills Golf Course, the Colfax-Mingo boys’ golf team struggled with tired legs and fast greens at the par 35 Woodland Hills Golf Course.

The end result was a fourth-place finish in a nine-hole tourney hosted by Saydel. The host Eagles won the day with a 174, while Earlham was runner-up with a 182.

The Cardinals were three shots clear of Woodward-Granger and the Hawks were three shots better than the Tigerhawks, who carded a 188.

“We played extremely well yesterday, but I think we had some tired legs today after playing 18 holes yesterday,” C-M golf coach Dave Brahm said. “The greens also played really fast. The approach shots weren’t landing where we expected them to land.”

Jimmy Abell led the Tigerhawks with a 41and Brady DeJoode shot a 44.

Mason Mosher carded a 48 and Jake Jeter finished with a 55 to round out the scoring.

The Tigerhawks play in an 18-hole tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday in Knoxville.
