Newton Police Department

• Dustin E. Pherigo, 30, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear after he was pulled over in the 500 block of East Second Street South at 11:08 p.m. Friday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Megan E. McGuffage, 33, of Oak Lawn, Ill., is charged with carrying weapons — a knife, interference with official acts, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to 1200 West 18th St. S. at 7:54 p.m. Sunday. Officers were called about a female that had a cut on her arm and did not know where she was. Officers spoke with an employee that said McGuffage went into the restroom for approximately a half hour before coming out with blood on her left arm and asking what city she was in. Officers spoke with McGuffage who said that she hurt her arm changing a tire and her father was at Walgreens. Officers spoke with her father who was in Illinois and did not know what his daughter was doing. Officers suggested she seek medical attention but she refused the ambulance on scene, but eventually said she would go to the hospital with the police. She resisted after being told several times to stop and was eventually placed in handcuffs. Officers found a plastic container that had a crack rock inside along with several syringes, one covered in blood. Marijuana and additional drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle along with a 7-inch knife under the driver’s seat. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Haley M. Campbell, 20, of Grinnell, is charged with unsafe backing on a highway after authorities were called to the 100 block of First Street North at 1:06 p.m. Friday. Campbell was backing out of a packing space when her vehicle hit Mancil Laidig’s vehicle which was stopped at a stop light. Campbell had approximately $300 in damage and Laidig had approximately $400 in damage. Shew as cited and released to appear.
