NPD Completes March Seatbelt Survey

The Newton Police Department recently conducted a seatbelt usage survey that showed strong results by motorists in the community.

The Newton Police Department conducted the survey on March 31 by recording seatbelt usage at three locations in Newton during daytime hours. The survey was taken on both the vehicle driver and their passengers.

Overall, the survey found 91 percent of motorists and passengers properly wearing their seatbelts.

“The Newton Police Department would like to remind motorists to buckle up, slow down and obey all traffic laws,” said Interim Police Chief Rob Burdess.

Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
