Hydrant flushing Friday, Saturday

Fire hydrants will be flushed beginning at 10 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday Morning north of First Avenue and Bittersweet Subdivision in Newton. Fire hydrants will be flushed beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday morning for all customers south of First Avenue.

Hydrants are flushed several times a year to clear the water mains of internal corrosion and residue which naturally builds up in water mains. While no interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the work, the newton waterworks advises customers may experience some drop in pressure or some discoloration of their water. The discoloration will clear up in a few minutes if the cold water tap is allowed to run. Do not run hot water or do laundry until cold water side is cleared up. Some customers have questioned why all hydrants are not flushed. Only those that provide the greatest flow and those that are on dead ends are opened.

For questions or concerns, contact the waterworks at 641-792-2003 or 641-792-1460.
