Former Baxter Heath Care employee pleads guilty to destroying records, drug possession

BAXTER — A former employee of Baxter Health Care Center arrested Dec. 30 for taking residents' hydrocodone pills pleaded guilty Friday to record tampering and possession of prescription drugs without a prescription.

Jasper County District Court records show 42-year-old Jennifer L. Adams entered written pleas to two of the three counts in the case, admitting to destroying medical records at the care center and taking the medication.

The State of Iowa's Medicaid Fraud Unit assisted with the investigation and filed the initial criminal complaint Dec. 24.

Adams was also charged with dependent adult abuse in the case, allegedly depriving the Baxter-based assisted living center residents of the pain medication. A written plea was not entered Friday for this count of Adams' indictment.

Adams is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m May 13, at the Jasper County Courthouse in Newton.
