• Dennis U. Rice, 38, of Newton, is charged with public intoxication, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to Kum & Go at 11:56 p.m. Sunday. Officers were called about a man stumbling around and allegedly trying to burglarize an apartment building. They found Rice and determined he was on methamphetamine. He denied being on meth, but had dilated pupils, was barely able to talk and could not walk on his own. During a search, officers found a .5 grams baggie of meth and pipe. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Melissa R. Miller, 33, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called to 523 W. Fourth St. S. at 9:27 p.m. Monday. Officers spoke with Miller who said the victim made her upset so she hit him in the head. The victim said he wanted to pursue charges. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Rosemelene N. Fofana, 39, of Des Moines, is charged with contempt after authorities were called to the Jasper County Jail at 6:57 p.m. Friday. Officers were notified that Fofana was in contact with a person who had a no contact order against her after dropping him off at the jail. She was stopped and admitted to having contact. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael N. Won of Des Moines, is charged with contempt after authorities were called to the Jasper County Jail at 6:57 p.m. Friday. Officers were notified that Won had contact with a person who had a no contact order against after she dropped him off at the jail. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael W. McDaniels, 65, of Newton, is charged with dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of prescription drug and possession of controlled substance after authorities were called to Metz Bridge at 12:18 a.m. Monday. Officers found McDaniels fishing and in possession of a Ruger .22 caliber rifle that he said he was using to shoot ground hogs that he came across. Officers smelled alcohol on McDaniels and after being placed under arrest officers found a metal smoking pipe, a pill bottle with two different pills in it and marijuana. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
