Wendell W. Van Wyngarden, 79, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Sanford USD Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 9 at First Presbyterian Church.  His family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 8 at George Boom Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Wendell was born on Jan. 17, 1936 to Wilber and Florence (Smith) Van Wyngarden in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1954. He then attended Kansas City Communication School.  He married Judith Lynn on March 14, 1959 in Newton. 
Wendell worked for an electrical contractor in Newton for several years then moved to Sioux Falls where he worked for eight years before going into business for himself. He then worked as an electrician for Augustana College.

He belonged to First Presbyterian church and was a dedicated member of Dakota Flyers. He enjoyed his model airplanes, riding motorcycles and most especially, spending time with his family.

Wendell is survived by two daughters, Kelley (Mark) Sneve, Dell Rapids, S.D. and Vicki (Donald) Latham, Renner, S.D.; two brothers,  Dwight (Shirley) Van Wyngarden, Watertoo and Duane (Bea) Van Wyngarden, Hawaii; sister in Law:  Patricia Van Wyngarden, Reasnor; grandchildren,  Jennifer Roth, Joseph Sneve, Erik Peterson, Kristen Antonsen, Cody Walters, Brittany Latham and Whittney Latham; great-grandchildren:  Logen, Shelbey, Noah, Kerrigan, Chloee and Elijah and his beloved dog, Sadie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, in 2004, his parents, and his brother, Kenneth.
