Koder, Reeve lead PCM boys in first outdoor meet

STORY CITY — Prairie City-Monroe senior Skyler Koder’s best mark in the high jump last year was 6 foot, and he just missed qualifying for the state track and field meet.

But after just one outdoor meet in 2015, Koder has already put himself in a position to clinch a spot in the Drake Relays later this month.

Koder’s jump of 6 feet, 2 inches won him the gold medal at Roland-Story on Thursday night and the mark is good enough to join a log jam of jumpers who are tied for 21st in the state.

The Mustangs scored 59.5 points in all and that put them in third place in the four-team field. Southeast Valley won the meet with 90 points and host Roland-Story was second with 67.5. Hampton-Dumont finished fourth with 47.5.

“We had some great PRs where they beat their time from last year in our first meet so that’s a great start for us,” PCM coach Collin Harrison said. “We had athletes who performed really well.”

Ricky Reeve and Connor Warrick won individual titles as well. Reeve was first in the long jump with a leap of 19-3, while Tyler Dredge took second at 18-5. Warrick won the shot put with a toss of 42-8.

Two other Mustangs grabbed runner-up finishes. Maverick McAtee was second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 1 second. Noah Anderson also claimed a silver medal in the 400 with a time of 55.49. Coming in after Anderson was Dredge, who finished third in 57.31.

Koder recored a third-place medal in the 110 high hurdles. He crossed the line in 16.90. He also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay team a third-place finish.

That foursome — which also included Reeve, Austin Sneller and Luke Pendroy — hit the line in 1:05.17, which ranks eighth in Class 2A, according to numbers reported into quikstatsiowa.com.

The Mustangs return to action Tuesday in a home co-ed meet that begins at 5 p.m. in Monroe.
