Newton FFA competes in district career development event

Thirty-five Newton FFA Chapter members competed at district contest in March at North Polk High School. Almost all of the participants that competed are advancing to the state event in Ames and members couldn’t be happier.

The results are as follows:

The Conduct of Meetings team, consisting of Trevor Annee, Kalob Westercamp, Mariah Wolfe, Lane Dethrow, Audrey Lucas, Jessica Jacobs and Lindsay Campbell placed second, receiving a gold ranking. The team will compete at state.

In Ag Sales, Jacob Smith placed second, receiving a gold ranking.

The Program of Activities team, made up of Jarret Horn, Macy Leonard and Arianna Jamieson placed second, receiving a gold ranking. The team will compete at state.

The Parliamentary Procedure, made up of Bridget Carson, Justice Borger, Brian Bleakney, Logan Zaabel, Jon Lawton and Wyatt Beavers placed sixth, with silver ranking.

The Greenhand Quiz team consisted of Jaden Adams, Campbell and Abbey Hunt. The team placed second, receiving gold ranking.

The Chapter Quiz team placed second, receiving a gold ranking. The participants were Smith, Jaci Reeves and Ronny Clark.

The Agriculture Issues and Perceptions team of Reeves, Sierra Foster, Kaylee Lange, Clark and Ellie Horn received a gold ranking, taking first place. The team of five will be competing at the state competition.

The treasurer’s book, put together by Arianna Jamieson, received a participation award.

The secretary’s book, put together by Macy Leonard, received a gold ranking, placing first. The book will advance to state for judging.

The Reporter’s Scrapbook, put together by Reeves, placed third, receiving a gold. The book is an alternate to state.

The last award that the chapter received was the National Chapter Award. The chapter placed twenty-sixth, taking a silver ranking.
