Baseball bat fight ends with one detained, one to hospital

A Wednesday morning incident in Newton led to one man being detained and another transported to Skiff Medical Center with head lacerations.

Newton Police Lt. Wes Breckenridge said the two men apparently got into some type of disagreement at or near Newton High School, and a baseball bat was involved. Both of the males tried to leave the area in separate vehicles, but Newton Police were able to stop both of them.

The man who was treated for head lacerations and possible head injuries was stopped in the alley behind Hawkeye Car Credit, along First Avenue East between East Third Street and East Fourth Street. He was questioned by police and taken to Skiff Medical Center; Breckenridge said he didn't appear to have life-threatening injuries.

The other male was not seriously injured, and was taken into custody by Newton Police.

Breckenridge said the suspects are not high school students. Look for more details in Thursday's Newton Daily News.
