So you think you can dance?

High school seems like a century ago, and I guess that’s partly true since I started in 1999.

They were four glorious years of crushing on boys, slumber parties at friends’ houses and feverously getting my homework done so I could make it to a golf meet or hit the road for a football game. Go Cards!

Looking back, there wasn’t anything I’d change, not a single thing, not even what I wore to prom or the goudy glitter makeup.

Speaking of prom, the Young Professionals of Jasper County are hosting a prom-like event Saturday night at the Iowa Speedway and everyone’s invited (21 years and older).

I originally thought I wouldn’t be able to attend, but with a change of plans, I’m able to go. Yay! I feel like Cinderella.

Fellow young professionals in town have spent a lot of time planning this event which should be a good time: food, drinks, old music, a photo booth and familiar faces.

A fun event in town. Isn’t that what you’ve been wanting?

I’ve asked my friends Pam and Lucinda to be my dates since my boyfriend is out of town. Pam is in. (Lucinda: wink, wink).

To my surprise, my awesome boss and her husband are also attending. I think we’ve also convinced Jamee and her husband to go too, and hopefully Mike and his girlfriend. Jason’s on the fence, but we hope he falls on the prom side. Time will tell, but if Jason does show up, we’ll be playing Metallica or AC/DC. Rock on!

It’s slightly expensive on my budget, that’s what I thought at first at $20 a person. Then I gave it more thought. I could rack up a $20 tab at El Sombrero in an hour or at the movie in two.

If it was a concert, I’d easily and willingly spend a lot more. Heck, I can spend $20 in two minutes at Target.

But a fun event in town with a bunch of people who rarely all get together — priceless.

Re-Prom is about enjoying yourself and enjoying your company. There’s a lot of good company in town, and I’m excited to see everyone dance the night away. If I know Newton, I think that sounds like a good deal.

I haven’t got my ticket yet because I hate parting with money, sometimes, and I procrastinate. But today (Friday) is the last day to get tickets at $20. If you wait until tomorrow it’s $30. Yikes!

I encourage you to come too! It doesn’t matter what you wear or if you have to come alone! You should hang out with us Saturday night.

If you’re not going, maybe offer to babysit for a family member or couple down the street.

Either way, I hope you have a great weekend. I’ll be dressing up a little, having fun with Newton friends and dancing the night away. Everybody Wang Chung tonight!
