Clayton Custer to transfer from ISU

AMES — Iowa State University announced Tuesday that men’s basketball player Clayton Custer has decided to transfer.

Custer, a 6-foot guard, saw action in 12 games in 2014-15.

The Overland Park, Kansas, native averaged 1.1 points in 5.8 minutes while coming off the bench for the Cyclones.

Custer’s departure opens up a roster spot for Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg.

“I appreciate the work and effort Clayton gave to our program this season,” Hoiberg said. “He has been a great teammate. I’ve enjoyed coaching Clayton and wish him the best in the future. I will do anything I can to assist him as he looks for a new school.”

Custer added, “I truly enjoyed my time at Iowa State. I was able to build relationships with people I’ll be close to the rest of my life and I will always cherish the moments I had here. Thank you to the Iowa State coaches, my teammates and Cyclone nation for the special opportunity.”
